Despite opposition protests, PM Modi has a crucial meeting with top ministers in Parliament

Prior to the day's events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with senior members of his government at the Parliament. The meeting was convened as opposition MPs demanded the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the Adani controversy and Rahul Gandhi's expulsion from the Lok Sabha.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, the Minister of Finance, Kiren Rijiju, Piyush Goyal, the Minister of Commerce, and Anurag Thakur, the Minister of I&B, were among the ministers present at the meeting.

According to reports, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) earlier today issued a three-line whip ordering all of its MPs to be present in Rajya Sabha on Monday for the approval of crucial bills in the Upper House.

The government submitted two bills to the Rajya Sabha for consideration, including the Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill 2023 and the Appropriation Bill 2023.

The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation (No. 2), which authorizes payment and appropriation of specific sums from and out of the Consolidated Fund of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, is about to be introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in order to advance the services anticipated for the fiscal year 2023–2024.

Without debate, the Lok Sabha approved the Bill. While the opposition MPs chanted slogans, the BJP-led government advanced the Finance Bill 2023 with numerous changes through the Lok Sabha. They persisted in calling for an investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg scandal by a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget ideas on February 1 along with 64 official modifications to the Finance Bill.

While this was going on, opposition lawmakers dressed in all-black to protest the government's stance on the Adani-Hindenburg dispute and Rahul Gandhi's exclusion from the Lok Sabha. The opposition leaders met with Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition, at his parliamentary office.
